Creating walkable, urban, human-centered neighborhoods in the Granary District.
Neighborhoods all over Athens, Greece have turned into dead urban spaces. A non-profit organization known as Beforelight, successfully made an impact by transforming Pittaki Street in the Pittaki neighborhood.
Beforelight gathered old lamps from the area and held an open workshop for locals to repair and decorate the fixtures. The lamps were installed as new lighting infrastructure for the street, creating a vibrant atmosphere for people to visit. The project is now a symbol of community for the people of Athens.
Light could influence the dead spaces in the Granary District in a similar way, and should be considered for the Block Weave Project.
